How it works
Point at any barcode. Instant detection works in any light, at any angle. No typing, no searching.
A clear 0 to 100 with two or three plain-language reasons. No jargon, no fine print to decode.
When the score isn't great, byta hands you a cleaner product in the same category. One tap.
What you'll see
Two or three clear reasons behind the score. Added sugars, artificial colors, preservatives — in words you'd use with a friend, not a textbook.
Things the label buries in fine print or skips entirely. Dosage context, additive watch-lists, and what "natural flavors" actually means here.
Not a lecture — a solution. When the score isn't great, byta finds a better product in the same category. Same energy, same taste profile, better ingredients.
Look closer
Every label leaves something out. Hover — or tap — the card to see what byta surfaces that the front of the package doesn't.
One number. Four honest tiers.
When the data's missing, byta says "Not rated" — honestly. Never a faked score, never an estimate dressed up as fact.
How we score
Every product is scored 0–100 from three independent slices, each weighted for the product's category. A beverage is judged differently than a cereal or a nut butter.
Sugar, salt, saturated fat, and energy penalties — each with thresholds tuned per category. Artificial sweeteners are penalized separately. Products that are ultra-processed with zero fibre, protein, or whole-food content get a nutrient-density floor penalty.
Additives are graded into tiers — benign, caution, watch, and avoid — based on published research. Watch-tier additives stack penalties. Avoid-tier additives (certain artificial sweeteners, azo dyes) hard-cap the total score at 49. NOVA 4 ultra-processing carries a steep standalone penalty.
Fibre, protein, and whole-food ingredient dominance earn credits. Products that lead with a real fruit, vegetable, nut, or legume get a whole-food bonus — flavorings don't count.
The methodology is public. Every product uses the same weighted math.
No brand can pay to change a score. There is no override or boost.
Personalization surfaces facts — it never changes the number.
Why you can trust it
The score is never for sale.
No sponsorship. No paid placement. No brand influence — it's impossible by design, not just policy. The methodology is public: tap any score to see exactly how it was computed.
Tell you what's bad, then leave you standing at the shelf.
Tell you what's bad — and hand you the better version.
